Force launches search for new chief constable

Northamptonshire Police has started the process of recruiting a new chief constable after the previous chief was sacked.

Nick Adderley was dismissed in June for gross misconduct after lying about his military record.

The job advertisement calls for someone who will “lead police officers and staff towards excellence, showing great values and the highest standards of integrity to earn trust and confidence”.

Danielle Stone, Northamptonshire’s Labour police, fire and crime commissioner, said the new chief would "put the needs of the public above everything".

Mr Adderley was sacked when he was found to have invented key details of his Royal Navy service.

Acting chief constable Ivan Balhatchet described it as "a very dark chapter" in the force's history.

Ms Stone said the process to appoint a new chief constable would be "thorough and rigorous."

She added that the chosen candidate would play a central role in implementing her forthcoming public safety plan for the county.

The position offers a starting salary of £176,000, with applications open until 8 December and interviews set for January.
