A man had to be rescued by emergency services after falling 30ft (9m) down a river bank, coastguards say.

The man fell down a bank at Calenick Creek, near Truro, Cornwall, shortly after 00:00 GMT, said Maggie Howell from Falmouth Coastguard.

He was brought to safety by firefighters and treated by paramedics, said Howell.

She said the ground was unstable after weeks of heavy rainfall and that people should "make sure you're very careful if you're out walking in the coastal areas because there's lots of cliff falls and holes at the moment."
