Girl, 9, dies in crash as two men arrested

A nine-year-old girl was fatally injured in a crash that led to the arrest of two men on suspicion of drug-driving.

The girl died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in the collision on Icknield Street, Hockley, Birmingham at about 23:00 BST on Thursday.

A woman and two other children from the same car were also injured and taken to hospital, West Midlands Police confirmed.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, from the second car, a BMW, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

The force has appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage of the crash to contact police.

In a statement, it said: "Our thoughts are with [the girl's] loved ones at this devastating time."
