Easter activities for you and your children

Many tourist destinations across the region have egg hunts, craft workshops and trails for families to enjoy

With the Easter break continuing into this bank holiday weekend, country parks and castles, museums and local groups across the West Midlands have events organised for the next few days and beyond.

We have taken a look at some of the many activities to get involved in, starting with some egg-tertaining fun trails:

Egg hunts

Biddulph Grange Garden in Staffordshire has an Easter egg hunt around its gardens along with activities while, in Wolverhampton, Wightwick Manor is offering visitors a trail in its gardens with both costing £3.50 each.

Explorers at Stokesay Castle in Shropshire can hunt for clues and solves riddles to claim a chocolate reward for £2 per child.

Shrewsbury Prison is offering a free egg hunt around its grounds for children who can also win a chocolate treat.

Over to West Midlands Safari Park, where there is an interactive trail and Easter Eggstravaganza fun with treats on offer with their usual admission prices.

Two free events in Coventry include a hunt for six giant eggs hidden in the War Memorial Park and eight eggs have been hidden in the ruins at Coventry Cathedral. Rewards are on offer for those that find them.

From Sunday, Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire have two Easter trails available - one for younger children around the shops and buildings and a trail of chocolate-themed Victorian advertising for older children to navigate.

Also from Sunday, explorers at Stokesay Castle can hunt for clues and solves riddles to claim a chocolate reward for £2 per child.

Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Dudley said it has the UK's largest Easter egg on show until Monday while offering other activities as well as a trail for children, where nine eggs have been hidden around the centre.

Bantock House Museum in Wolverhampton has an egg hunt on on Saturday with prizes for finding them hidden in the gardens.

Other Easter events:

Birmingham and the Black Country

  • At ThinkTank Birmingham Science Museum at Millennium Point, children can learn about some of the 10,000 bird eggs the Birmingham Museums Trust holds and follow a trail around to hunt for eggs from dinosaurs, reptile and insects
  • Easter means a big spring clean at the Black Country Living Museum and visitors can meet the rag and bone man, explore the gardens and and try some hands-on activities, from bread making to laundry using traditional methods
  • Until Sunday, Resorts World has various "hands-on" crafty workshops available if booked in advance

Staffordshire

  • Acton Scott Working Farm reopened in time for Easter offering visitors the chance to experience a real working farm during spring and being able to meet new-born lambs
  • Craft workshops, lawn games and a fun trail is on offer at Tamworth's Middleton Hall with prizes on offer
  • At the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, children can also enjoy a new, spring trail taking in the season's colourful blossoms, fresh buds, and wildlife at the tourist destination

Herefordshire and Worcestershire

  • Bewdley Museum is offering a variety of craft activities each day throughout the holidays which include Easter caps and bonnets, hedgehog feeders and bee houses
  • From 12 April, Arley Arboretum is hosting an Easter egg hunt among its blossoming woodland
  • Bodenham Arboretum has several events on through the holidays including baking sessions and the chance to encounter different types of animals

Coventry and Warwickshire

  • Putt Putt Social Coventry is offering fun and games in the the city centre outside Lower Precinct Shopping Centre. Children can take part in pan-Asian-themed crazy golf, augmented reality darts, shuffleboard, pool, UV immersive table tennis and karaoke
  • Five Easter eggs have been hidden in shop windows at West Orchards Shopping Centre in Coventry city centre and they must be found, organisers said
  • At Hatton Country World in Warwickshire, lambs, calves and goat kids can be petted alongside a falconry show, a tractor safari and arts and crafts

Shropshire

  • An Easter walking trail inspired by gameshows has been created at Attingham Park
  • Ludlow Castle also has an Easter egg hunt on with eggs hidden throughout the castle grounds
  • Wonderland at Telford Town Park has crazy golf, a maze walk, a tea party, panning for gold and face painting

Wolverhampton

  • There is an Easter egg hunt around The Market Place on Cleveland Street and crafting stations and prizes on offer in the Mander Centre
  • Wolverhampton Art Gallery has several crafty workshops on throughout the week including creating portraits using colourful fabric shapes and pom pom and garland making
