An 11-year-old child has been seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash involving an electric motorcycle, police have said.

Northumbria Police was called at 17:30 GMT on Tuesday to Denton Road in Newcastle to reports of a pedestrian in the road.

Officers said the rider of the Sur-Ron-style vehicle left the scene and are appealing for witnesses.

The boy, whose injuries include a broken leg, remains in hospital.
