Goole landmarks to light up for 200th anniversary
HandoutGoole's most prominent landmarks will be illuminated to mark the start if the town's 200th anniversary celebrations
Shine On Goole will see St John's Parish Church and the town's water towers bathed in light as part of a music-led projection show called A Port In Green Fields.
The show is part of a programme, including street theatre, exhibitions, film screenings and community events, to mark 200 years of Goole.
The free event, organised by East Riding Arts, will take place on later and on Friday from 18:30 to 20:30 GMT.
A Port In Green Fields will explore 200 years of local history, following the town's transition from marshland to the era of coal, steam, Tom Puddings and the present day.
The six-minute show, developed by Focal Studios, will be split into minute-long chapters and will be repeated on a loop during both evenings.
HandoutA new sound and light installation, called And…Breathe, will be displayed near St John's Parish Church, designed to encourage mindfulness.
There will also be street theatre featuring drummers and a kaleidoscopic lighting design.
Councillor Nick Coultish said: "I'm very much looking forward to Shine On Goole, which is a free, family-friendly event taking place in the heart of our town.
"Together with the parish church, the water towers are among the town's best-known landmarks and, because of their vast scale, can be seen from far and wide.
"I'm delighted that they too will be bathed in light on the evenings of 19 and 20 March, ensuring that Goole really is shining bright in its 200th birthday year."
