A van has been seized by enforcement officers after a large amount of waste was fly-tipped in a village in Nottinghamshire.

Rushcliffe Borough Council said a white Ford van was secured on Tuesday at an address in Clifton, with support from Nottinghamshire Police, after a large fly‑tip of assorted waste was found in Fairham Brook Lane in Bunny.

The authority said further inquiries identified the details of the waste carrier who collected the waste and was suspected of dumping it.

It added the van was being retained for several days while the owner was invited to come forward and explain its use in connection with the waste.

'One of many'

It said the van might ultimately be sold, destroyed if unclaimed, or forfeited subject to a court decision with investigations ongoing.

Rob Inglis, cabinet portfolio holder for environment and safety, said: "There are no excuses for dumping items that blights communities and causes significant environmental issues.

"This incident is unfortunately one of many fly-tipping cases investigated each week by WISE and the Community Safety Team.

"Residents and businesses are reminded to take care when disposing of waste to ensure they do not inadvertently contribute to waste crime. Always use a registered waste carrier and understand what we call your 'legal duty of care'."
