An exhibition celebrating the work of a Devon-born artist has opened in North Devon.
The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon's show, Wilfred Avery and the Unpredictable Image (1926 – 2016), celebrates the work of the artist and will run until 27 January.
It is the first exhibition of Avery's work since his death in 2016 and was displaying a selection of newly-acquired works, alongside loans from private collections and national institutions, exhibition bosses said.
Many of the pieces had never been seen by the public before, they added.
Avery was a painter and collagist who was largely unrecognised in his lifetime, North Devon Council said but added his work was now getting well-deserved interest by public institutions and private collectors alike.
Museum manager Alison Mills said: "We are proud and excited to be exhibiting the work of such a hugely talented artist, including some pieces never before seen by the public."
