Officers had to cross the road to apprehend the fowl suspect

Officers have been praised for their egg-cellent work rescuing a suspect chicken from running down the street.

Cambridgeshire Police officers were in Thorpe Road, Peterborough, when they spotted the bird on the road.

A short foot chase ensued before the chicken was caught, the force added.

After being cleared of any fowl play by officers, the bird was safely returned to its owner - who provided the officers with fresh eggs in thanks.
