Police spot tawny owl trying to 'cross' the A47

Police officers had their heads turned by a surprising road user while on patrol.

While driving down the A47 near Lowestoft in Suffolk on Sunday, they spotted a tawny owl that had "decided to cross the road".

In a bid not to "ruffle any feathers", a force statement said, the officers contacted Marine and Wildlife Rescue, who advised the bird was likely to have been shell shocked and had lost its bearings.

"While the team were swooping in to help, our wise friend decided it was time to take flight - clearly didn't fancy a ride in the back of a police car", the force said.
