A walker was "lucky" to escape serious injury after falling about 150m (492ft) in the Cairngorms, rescuers have said.

The man appeared to have stepped onto an overhanging ledge of snow at Glas Maol during a descent at Glenshee on Saturday afternoon.

An emergency response involving a helicopter and mountain rescue teams was launched.

Braemar Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) said the man escaped with cuts and bruises.

Malcolm MacIntyre, the operations manager at Braemar MRT, said teams responded quickly to help the man, after his female companion raised the alarm.

"As it turns out he wasn't buried in the snow, so he was I think very lucky," he told BBC Scotland News.

MacIntyre said he "amazingly" suffered nothing more serious than a face laceration and bruising.

He said visibility was a big issue at the moment and urged hillwalkers to be "on your game" in terms of navigation.
