A bumper harvest of more than 700 handmade pumpkins, topped by a fairytale pumpkin carriage, has gone on display at Charlecote Park in Warwickshire.

The colourful crop of seasonal vegetables at the country house in Wellesbourne were knitted, crocheted and felted by volunteers and local community groups.

The National Trust site began phasing out edible gourds and pumpkins three years ago, in a bid to reduce food waste and offer a sustainable alternative over Halloween.

The display is open to visitors daily between 10:30 and 16:00 until 2 November, organisers said.

A pumpkin carriage, made of upcycled objects, stands at the top of the pumpkin party at this year's display.

The main arrangement is visible in the Victorian kitchen and contains about 500 of the woolly vegetables.

Visitors could also take home their own handmade pumpkin for a donation, which would contribute to the conservation of the site, a National Trust spokesperson added.
