Jersey venues 'may have to offer free tap water'
PA MediaRestaurants, pubs, and bars in Jersey could be forced to provide free tap water, according to a new amendment to go before the States.
Deputy Alex Curtis said he wanted to make sure people did not have to pay for water, unless it could not be easily supplied.
He said that people might be surprised the law did not require hospitality business licence-holders to give free tap water, unlike in the UK.
The exception would be if water could not easily be provided in a situation, such as during a temporary fault, or if the water supply was private, the amendment said.
The earliest date the amendment can be debated is 24 February.
