A council in Devon is seeking nominations for local heroes who "go above and beyond" to help local people every day.

South Hams District Council said the South Hams Community Awards would celebrate people and organisations in four categories.

They are the Young Persons Award, Community Champion Award, Community Organisation Award and the Climate and Biodiversity Champion Award.

Councillor Bernard Taylor said: "Too often, great work being done in our communities by residents goes unrecognised and uncelebrated."

He said the council knew there were people and organisations "doing fantastic things" in the community and asked the public to nominate them via the council website.

Nominations for the awards are set to close on Saturday 31 January.
