Royal Parade works stalled by 'incessant rain'
Morgan SindallResurfacing work on Royal Parade in Plymouth has been delayed by "incessant heavy rain", the city council has said.
The work was due to be completed by Monday 23 February, but recent downpours mean the expected completion date has shifted to Monday 2 March.
Plymouth City Council (PCC) said resurfacing could be carried out in the rain but "constant heavy downpours" had stalled progress.
Councillor John Stephens, cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, thanked the public for their "continuing patience".
The council previously said the Royal Parade bus improvement scheme aimed to reduce congestion and improve reliability by increasing the number of bus stops on the shop side of the city centre.
Stephens said: "We are so nearly there but the extraordinary levels of rain fall have got in the way.
"We had to set a specific start date as the bus operators needed to plan their routes and inform the traffic commissioner of changes to their services.
"We also had to give people plenty of notice about locations of the new stops as there have been changes.
"The original programme end date was April, so despite this set back, we are still looking to ahead of schedule.
"Thank you for your continuing patience."
