North Northamptonshire Council said it was cleaning up the oil at the lake in Corby

The clean-up of a lake after a "deliberate oil dump" is continuing, a council has said.

North Northamptonshire Council said the contamination was discovered at Oakley Vale Lake, Corby, on Friday and that it did not believe it had had an adverse effect on the lake's fish.

It is the third time an incident like this has happened, as oil was also spilt in the same location in November 2025 and March 2024.

The local authority said it did not know who was responsible and that it continued to monitor the swans at the lake.

It said its contractors had deployed booms and mats as part of the clean-up and warned people to keep their dogs and children away from the water.

In a separate incident in the county, an oil spill was reported beside the A14 near Woodford in December 2025.
