Two men were arrested after a driver lost control of the vehicle they were driving in Nottinghamshire and crashed after fleeing from police.

Officers started following a Fiat Punto at about 21:00 GMT on Monday when the driver was spotted turning recklessly onto Ollerton Road near Worksop, Nottinghamshire Police said.

After being followed to the A57 and then driving through a red light, the vehicle hit the side of a lorry before traversing across the A60 towards Mansfield and down an embankment, the force said.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, drug driving and theft.

The 18-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of cannabis possession.

PC Mark Holland, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The occupants of this vehicle had a lucky escape after the driver lost control and plunged down an embankment.

"As our investigation into what happened continues, we'd like to hear from any additional witnesses who may have seen this vehicle in motion and recorded dashcam footage of it."
