Two men have been detained in Portugal and the Netherlands in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy who was chased and stabbed to death with machetes.

Alexander John Soyoye, known as John, was killed in Moston in November 2020.

International arrest warrants were issued and the pair in custody have extradition proceedings "ongoing", Greater Manchester Police said.

The force also revealed that Ruben Candiza, 23, Valdo De-Almeida, 26, and Marco Veiga, 25, who are all Portuguese nationals extradited to the UK, had been charged with murder and violent disorder.

The trio are due at Manchester Crown Court on Friday.

Det Insp Adam Hitchen: "We have worked closely with the National Crime Agency in the Netherlands and Portugal to arrest and extradite these individuals, who will now face legal proceedings here in Manchester."

Six men and a teenage boy were previously convicted of John's murder in 2021. A seventh man was convicted of his manslaughter.
