A section of Birmingham city centre has been cordoned off by police after a man was found seriously injured in the early hours of the morning.

Police tape was put up in Colmore Row near Cathedral Square, on Thursday morning, and a forensic tent was reportedly seen near a bus stop.

West Midlands Police said officers were called to the scene just after 02:30 GMT after a man was found with a serious head injury and taken to hospital.

An investigation has been launched to find out how he sustained the injury, the force said, and anyone with information has been asked to get in touch.

The incident prompted the closure of Temple Row West and buses that serve Newhall Street have been diverted through Church Street, Transport for West Midlands warned passengers on X.
