A detective accused of sexual assault and assault has been dismissed from the police despite having been cleared of any criminal offence.

Det Sgt Mike Robinson, who was charged but not convicted after an incident in Bedford, has lost his job with Bedfordshire Police.

Prosecutors offered no evidence at a hearing at Luton Crown Court in November, and not guilty verdicts were entered.

But the police force said Mr Robinson had been found to have "breached the standards of professional behaviour" after evidence was considered at a misconduct hearing.

Bedfordshire Police said in a statement that Mr Robinson had been arrested and charged with sexual assault and common assault following an incident involving two female paramedics in March 2024.

A crown court official told the BBC that prosecutors had offered no evidence at a hearing on 14 November. She said not guilty verdicts were entered and Mr Robinson was "discharged".

Bedfordshire Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst considered evidence at a misconduct hearing.

The force statement added: "[Mr Robinson] was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour for discreditable conduct and authority, respect and courtesy."

The force said he had been added to the College of Policing's "barred list" and banned from "returning to policing or similar professions".
