Tributes paid to 'most respected' city councillor
BBCTributes have been paid to a city councillor who has died following an illness.
A statement released by Peterborough City Council said Labour member, Nick Thulbourn - who represented the Fletton and Woodston ward - died peacefully at Thorpe Hall Hospice on 13 December.
Labour leader at the council, Shabina Qayyum, said: "Our city is a sadder place due to the news of the loss of one of our most respected councillors.
"Nick was the type of person who got along with everyone. And nothing ever phased him. No job or task was too big and he always had a solution to, in his words, 'get the job done'."
She added: "I will miss him very much.
"Our group will not be the same and we will miss his counsel on matters. We send his wife Margaret and their children and grandchildren our deepest of condolences at this very sad time."
'Job's a good'un'
Liberal Democrat group leader Christian Hogg said he would "miss his candour" and described him as "a man of principle", adding that his loss would be "felt for some time".
Independent councillor Gavin Elsey described Mr Thulbourn as "a great man".
Peterborough's Labour MP Andrew Pakes added: "Our city shines a little less brightly today.
"Nick was a one-off. A friend, grafter and passionate about his politics and making Peterborough a better place to live and work.
"He was always there to help whether in his business, as a campaigner or councillor.
"His stock phrase - 'job's a goodun' - summed up his calm and clear view on the world and what needs to be done.
"From the first time I met him to our last conversation I relied on and respected his take on things."
Nick Thulbourn served as a ward councillor for Fletton and Woodston from 2012 to 2016 and then was re-elected in 2023.
He also also served as cabinet member for growth and regeneration between April and September 2025.
