Plans for flats in city centre turned down
GooglePlans to demolish three houses and replace them with a block of flats have been refused by Peterborough City Council.
The application proposed the redevelopment of a site on New Road in the city centre and building 23 apartments – a mix of one and three-bedroom apartments.
The plans did not include any on-site parking, although they did include 30 cycle spaces.
Peterborough Civic Society had supported the application, highlighting the design and the respect given to cathedral views, but the planning committee turned it down.
Council officers said it would be an overdevelopment of the site, and the absence of parking and turning facilities would be inappropriate for people with disabilities, deliveries and bin collections.
Meanwhile, the highways team raised safety concerns. Officers warned vehicles could stop on the busy road near Boongate Roundabout, affecting traffic flow and safety.
