An ice hockey player has been sacked after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman.

Ex-Sheffield Steelers forward Clifford Pu, 27, admitted two charges of assault by beating at a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The court heard the offences took place between 17 November and 11 December.

In a statement Sheffield Steelers said Pu, who is due to be sentenced on 26 February, was "no longer associated with the club with immediate effect".

The club said it had taken its decision "in line with its club conduct policies", before adding that it would not be making any further comment.

Born in Ontario, Pu signed for the Steelers at the start of the 2025/26 season making 28 appearances before his contract was terminated.
