Det Ch Insp Kev Barber says both the victim and suspect were known to each other and were neighbours

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his neighbour after a fire was started in a doorway.

Norfolk Police said emergency services received three separate calls to an address in Coastline Village, off Ostend Road, in Walcott, at about 17:00 GMT on Sunday, after reports of a dispute.

A man aged in his 70s was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment to serious burns and he died in the early hours of the morning.

Det Ch Insp Kev Barber said the pair were known to one another and were neighbours.

The force said the suspect, aged in his 40s, was initially held on suspicion of attempted murder, before being arrested for the more serious offence.

"The focus of our inquiries will be to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident yesterday," said Det Ch Insp Barber, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team.

Two properties were cordoned off, he said.

Mr Barber said the force did not believe there to be any wider threat to the public and urged anyone with information or anything they think could assist with the investigation to get in touch.
