A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his neighbour after a fire was started in a doorway.

Norfolk Police said emergency services were called to Coastline Village, Walcott, at about 17:00 GMT on Sunday.

The victim, Robert Button, 73, was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with serious burns but died on Monday.

Christopher Brooks, 40, also of Coastline Village, was remanded in custody at Norwich Magistrates' Court to appear at Norwich Crown Court on Wednesday.

He is charged with murder and with damaging a Nissan pickup truck belonging to Mr Button.

He was not asked to enter pleas in court and he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Det Ch Insp Kev Barber previously said the pair were known to each other and were neighbours in the north Norfolk coastal village.

Police said a post-mortem examination would take place to determine Mr Button's cause of death.
