Police said this was the second incident of a man exposing himself to a young girl in under a month

Police have issued an alert after a man exposed himself to a teenage girl on a footpath in Thornbury.

The incident happened on a path off St Davids Road at about 17:00 GMT on Monday 1 December. The girl, who is in her mid-teens, ran to a nearby house and called the police.

The man was described as white and in his late teens and he was wearing black joggers and a navy top. This is the second incident in the space of a month in which a man has exposed himself to a young person, police said.

Neighbourhood inspector Stephen Baines said there would be an increase in uniformed police patrols in the area as officers try to identify the suspect.

Officers were already investigating an incident in which a man exposed himself to a primary school girl in the same location at about 15:45 GMT on Friday 10 October.

The child was walking ahead of her family member at the time of the incident but the man ran off when the adult caught up.

The suspect was described as in his mid-20s and white with brown hair and he was wearing a red jacket and dark-coloured joggers.

Officers said they were also informed of another report of a man exposing himself in an underpass on Gillingstool at about 17:00 GMT on 2 October.

He was described as aged between 20 and 30 and was wearing dark joggers and a striped top.

The neighbourhood policing team is asking the public to get in touch if there are areas where people feel unsafe so that it can work with partners to improve the safety of the area.

Police have said to call 999 immediately if the offender is still in the area or ring 101 with any relevant information, giving the reference 5225284819.
