A teacher has been banned from the profession more than four years after he was cleared of sexually assaulting two girls.

Adam Binns, 35, who taught at Bourne Grammar School, was acquitted of all charges at Lincoln Crown Court in 2021.

A professional conduct panel has now ruled that, on the balance of probability, Binns was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct.

Marc Cavey, from the Teacher Regulation Agency, handed Binns a lifetime ban from teaching and will not allow him to be reinstated.

The panel, which was acting on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, found the conduct of Binns had fallen "significantly short of the standards expected of the profession".

It was found that he had shared a taxi with three female pupils and had sexually assaulted one following a night out in a bar.

The panel also found Binns had subsequently made sexually motivated comments to the girl, asked the pupils not to discuss his actions and had "exploited his position of trust".

In September 2021, Binns was found not guilty by a criminal court of two charges of sexual assault.

The ban means Binns has been banned from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children's home in England.
