Removal of building ordered following complaints

The owner of a building in West Byfleet, Surrey, has been ordered to remove it by the local authority.

Woking Borough Council said the structure in Abbot Close had been put up without planning permission.

The council said it acted after complaints from the public over the building's appearance.

The enforcement order comes into effect on 1 October, with the owner then having three months to demolish it.

The council said the building, made of scaffolding poles and corrugated iron, was put up in March 2024, a month after a planning application had been submitted.

The application was refused in July 2024, with an appeal turned down by the planning inspectorate in March 2025.

Council inspectors found the structure still in place in May, when a decision to issue an enforcement notice was taken.

Louise Morales, Woking's portfolio holder for building control, said: "Both the council and an independent planning inspector concluded that the structure was unacceptable and it is now time for it to be removed.

"We will not hesitate to consider further legal action if the notice is not complied with."
