Lessons to be learned from Goretti, minister says
BBCStorm Goretti had "significant consequences" for people in Cornwall, a minister has said.
After meeting the county's MPs and other leaders, Security Minister Dan Jarvis thanked people in Cornwall for "for the work they have done getting the county back on its feet".
The government has faced criticism for its response to the storm.
Jarvis said: "From a national government perspective, we stand with the people of Cornwall and, of course, we want to do everything that we can to support them. Inevitably there will be some lessons that we can learn and that's why I'm here."
Jarvis said: "My gut feeling is that this was a very serious storm that had significant consequences for the people of Cornwall.
"I've been listening to the things that we can do to help and I'll be talking to other ministerial colleagues about what support we can provide in the days, weeks and months ahead."
He said there had been a "pretty good response overall" but he had been concerned by issues such as the length of time it had taken to some people to be reconnected to the internet.
Andrew George, Liberal Democrat MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: "Though a week late, I'm pleased the government agrees the impact of the storm deserves more government attention."
George said he was "enormously impressed" by the way people responded to the storm.
"The local community stood up and gave that help it was very, very impressive," he said.
