Teenager found guilty of murder after stabbing man

A teenager has been found guilty of murder after stabbing a man with a machete at a flat in Leeds.

Romaine James, 18, of Reginald Mount, Leeds, was convicted on Thursday following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing on 5 November.

Saymore T Kwashira, 23, was found unconscious after being stabbed in the neck and stomach at a property in Winrose Avenue, Belle Isle, at 12:17 BST on 12 November. He died in hospital shortly after.

West Yorkshire Police said James was part of a group of three men who went to the flat, where Mr Kwashira and a friend had been staying with a woman who lived there.

The group had been inhaling nitrous oxide when an argument started between Saymore and James.

This resulted in Mr Saymore being stabbed by James.

James and the other two men he was with then left the address and got a taxi to the Beeston area of Leeds.

James was also captured on CCTV holding what appeared to be a machete, police added.
