A woman has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent after a man was stabbed outside a Lancashire pub.

It happened outside the Black Bull Inn on Pope Lane in Penwortham, Preston just after 17:00 BST, police said.

Officers found a man in his 50s with "a number of stab wounds". He was taken to hospital but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

A knife has been recovered and a woman, also in her 50s, was arrested at the scene and is in custody.

"We know this will have caused concern in the area and we want to reassure you that we were quickly on scene and swiftly made an arrest," a Lancashire Police spokesman said.

"We are not looking for anyone else and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat."

Any witnesses are asked to contact the force.
