Park trust makes six redundancies amid rising costs

A city park trust said it has made six members of staff redundant amid "rising costs and a reduction in expected income during the current economic climate".

Nene Park Trust manages seven sites in Peterborough, including Ferry Meadows, Thorpe Meadows Sculpture Trail and Orton Mere.

The charity said it relied on revenue from its events and car parks to support the maintenance of its parks.

Matthew Bradbury, the chief executive of Nene Park Trust, said: "We have taken a careful look at how we deliver our services to enable the trust to continue to steward the much-loved green and cultural spaces that mean so much to the people of Peterborough (and region) and our visitors."

He added: "Inevitably, this process has meant that we have identified a small number of posts within the trust that are sadly redundant, the result of which is that we are losing six incredible colleagues.

"We wish them well and thank them for the significant value they have provided to the trust and to you, our beneficiaries.

"We are deeply grateful to our staff, volunteers and supporters for their continued commitment during this period of change."

The charity said it was prioritising communicating with its staff and would have more information for the public in the new year.
