Winter festival made more accessible, says trust

A winter festival expected to attract thousands of visitors has been made more accessible, a park trust has said.

The Nene Park Winter Festival at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough, will run until 23 December.

The Nene Park Trust, who organised the event, said more than 7,000 people attended the festival last year despite parts of its programme being cancelled for several days due to strong winds.

The trust said this year it has implemented measures to "weather-proof" the event by moving some activities - such as Santa's meet-and-greet - to the festival's welcome area, which they hoped would also make the activity more accessible.

The festival will include a band of elves, live performances and festive food and craft stalls and on 10 and 17 December a Christmas-themed dog show will be held.

Pets will be judged on events including jumping over puddings and weaving through candy canes, the trust added.

Money raised through the festival will go towards the maintenance of the park and other community events, the trust said.
