A family-of-six are working to rebuild their lives after a kitchen appliance in their flat went up in flames.

Samantha Spencer and Joshua Phillips were running a bath for their newborn daughter when the fire broke out in their flat in Amesbury, Wiltshire.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service worked for almost two hours to extinguish the fire. Nobody was hurt, but Phillips was treated for smoke inhalation after he went back to grab essential items for his daughter.

"We are struggling and it's going to be a long time before we can accept what's happened and move on," he said.

The fire service confirmed that the blaze had been caused by kitchen appliance, but did not specify which one.

The couple said they are "99.9% sure" that their toaster ignited and Spencer added that she saw "flames coming out" of it.

The couple spoke to the BBC about their recovery after the fire

The fire was captured on the family's camera in the kitchen.

Spencer said "everything was ruined" after the incident, either by fire, smoke or water.

Since the fire, more than £1,900 has been raised for the family.

"When you go through something traumatic you do realise who's there for you," Spencer said.

"The community and people were turning up at the door.

"Everything that we own now is from what people have gifted us."

The family is now preparing to move into a new house.
