Hospital wants new play area to bring patients joy
Northampton General HospitalA hospital said it hoped a new play area for its children's ward would bring "much-needed joy" to patients.
Northampton General Hospital (NGH) said a concept design for the refurbishment had been approved, with work due to begin in April.
The play area, which will have a "nature-discovery theme" will be located next to the Paddington and Disney wards, where children of all ages are treated for a wide range of medical conditions, including cancer.
The hospital said existing facilities were "outdated and not fully accessible, highlighting the need for a modern, inclusive space."
Northampton General HospitalNGH said the design would offer a "calming escape" from the hospital setting and "encourage sensory exploration, social interaction and moments of joy."
The project is jointly supported by the hospital and Northamptonshire Health Charity, which carried out a funding appeal for the play area.
The appeal has targeted raising £275,000 to ensure the "best possible environment" for children to "play and recover", so far raising £192,500.
Emma Fee, play team lead at NGH, said: "We are so grateful to everyone who is supporting this appeal. Despite several unforeseen delays, we are nearly there."
