For the first time in 50 years, states members decided to change the system

The Licensing Assembly will no longer have control of Jersey's drinking laws.

The Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Deputy Kirsten Morel, proposed an amendment to his own proposition that would move oversight of alcohol licences.

For the first time in 50 years, states members decided to change the system, and create the Alcohol Policy Board where a group of politicians would have the power to grant licences, taking the power away from the Royal Court.

It would also put them in charge of deciding opening hours and drink prices.
