Body of man found in the River Ayr

The body of a man has been found in the River Ayr near Mauchline following searches for a man who has been missing since before Christmas.

Police Scotland said the discovery was made at about 15:10 on Saturday.

Although formal identification is yet to take place, the family of 33-year-old Jason Anderson has been informed.

The cause of the man's death is being treated as unexplained pending a post-mortem examination.

Jason Anderson was last seen on CCTV on 12 December last year

Jason Anderson was reported missing on Thursday 18 December after being last seen in the Catrine area six days earlier.

Police have been reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the local area since he disappeared, while searches have involved a police helicopter, drones, mountain rescue teams and officers on quad bikes.

The force said his disappearance was out of character.
