Man taken to hospital after Lurgan stabbing incident

A man has been taken to hospital for treatment following a stabbing incident in Lurgan, County Armagh.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said a woman in her 20s has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Officers are asking the public to avoid the Lord Lurgan Park area while follow up enquiries continue.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it received a 999 call at 16:53 GMT on Saturday following reports of an incident in the Derry Street area of the town.

"NIAS despatched a rapid response paramedic and an emergency crew to the incident," the NIAS said in a statement to BBC News NI.

"Ambulance control also tasked the HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) team to attend by response car.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, the patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast."
