New skatepark opens in town
North Northamptonshire CouncilA brand new skatepark has opened in a town, replacing the outdated facilities.
It is located at Bassett's Close Park in Wellingborough and was officially opened by North Northamptonshire Council on Tuesday.
Further improvements have also taken place at the park, with new outdoor gym equipment and expanded play areas.
Martin Griffiths, leader of the Reform UK-led authority, said: "The skateboarding community of Wellingborough have been keen to see the existing skatepark replaced with new, modern facilities... so, it's great to see that work has now been completed and the new skatepark can start to be used by residents of all ages."
The new facility is in a busier, more visible part of Bassett's Close Park, further away from homes, and includes solar lighting and CCTV cameras.
The council said it hoped the skatepark would offer a "safe alternative to street skating for all age groups".
