Crackdown on shoplifting and hate crime launched

A crackdown on hate crime, anti-social behaviour and shoplifting is being launched in a Surrey district.

The campaign is being spearheaded by Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), Surrey Police, firefighters and Surrey County Council.

Insp James Green described the crimes being targeted as the "most important and impactful on the local community".

He added: "Through the identification of these issues and the joint working in tackling them, together we can make Mole Valley a safer place to live."

Specific policies include tackling hotspot shoplifting locations, providing an improved service for hate crime victims and increasing intelligence around fly-tipping.

Pubs, businesses, schools and youth groups are also being contacted to raise awareness of specific crimes.

The council said it would hold a public consultation later this year.
