A temporary lifting of parking charges on part of Kirkcaldy High Street is to be made permanent

Parking charges on part of Kirkcaldy High Street are to be removed permanently after a pilot scheme.

An experimental traffic regulation order has been in place between Kirk Wynd and Oswalds Wynd for the last 18 months as part of efforts aimed at attracting more people to the town centre.

Fife Council's Kirkcaldy area committee approved a recommendation to make the temporary measure permanent at a meeting on Tuesday.

The committee will fund the resulting loss of parking income from its budget allocation for devolved parking initiative for the area.

Council officer Phil Clark said no formal objections or negative feedback had been received to the permanent removal of the charges.

Kirkcaldy Central councillor Alistair Cameron said he was in favour of the decision.

He said: "I think it is a no-brainer in terms of keeping it as it is."

Fellow ward councillor Blair Allan added: "We have not had any trader feedback but I cannot get parked there anymore so that speaks for itself.

"It is well used and I support the recommendation."
