A council has hit out at "unacceptable" vandals who targeted a recreation ground in Carlton.

A defibrillator was damaged at Conway Recreation Ground on 18 December. This came after damage was also caused to a gate to the tennis courts, which reopened following a refurbishment in August.

Further reports included needles being found near the children's play area, according to Gedling Borough Council.

The council said it had reported the matters to police and was looking through CCTV in order to identify the culprits.

John Clarke, leader of Gedling Borough Council, said: "The park is well used by local families and the behaviour of these vandals is unacceptable.

"I am deeply disappointed that they have chosen to cause damage to a much-loved public space and to the tennis courts after so much work has gone into making improvements.

"The council will not tolerate vandalism of any kind. We have reported the incident to police and will be collecting CCTV evidence to share with them to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice."
