Emergency services were called to Hunningley Lane on Tuesday morning

A man is in hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving two cars.

Emergency services were called to Hunningley Lane, in Barnsley, at about 06:45 GMT to reports a black Toyota Yaris and a white Volkswagen Golf had collided.

According to South Yorkshire Police, the driver of the Volkswagen, a 65-year-old man, was taken to hospital, while the driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene to assist officers with their inquiries.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area while emergency services are conducting their work, while Hunningley Primary School said it would not open before 10:30 as a result of the road closure.
