Cath Lyon said she had "loved every minute" of her 62 years in nursing

A nurse has retired from the NHS after 62 years of "endlessly devoted" service.

Grandmother-of-four Cath Lyon, christened "Mamma Cath" by colleagues at Hull Royal Infirmary, started on 1 August 1962, aged 16.

She retired on Monday just weeks before her 80th birthday, with her bosses praising her compassion, love and unwavering standards.

Knitted jumpers have been sent from across the UK and beyond

Knitters from across the UK have come together to create hundreds of jumpers for newborn lambs at a Yorkshire farm.

The woollen sweaters began arriving at Cannon Hall Farm, near Barnsley, after it put out a plea on social media following the premature birth of a lamb.

The appeal resulted in them receiving "absolutely hundreds" of jumpers, according to Rob Nicholson, whose family run the visitor attraction.

When a text came through saying an injured bird was in need of rescue, Erica and Bob Nash did not hesitate to help, despite it being their wedding day.

The couple had tied the knot at Skipton Registry Office on Saturday, when Craven Wildlife Rescue got in touch later that afternoon to say a red kite had been seen in distress near Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

As a passionate volunteer for the charity, the bride said it felt "really natural" that her special day ended with helping to save an animal in need.

Bradford Ice Arena is home to ex-Olympians and hopefully future talent too

As Britain's speed skaters prepare to go for gold at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy, Bradford Ice Arena celebrated its 60th birthday.

The city centre rink opened in 1966 and is home to ice hockey teams, figure skating academies and Bradford Speed Skating Club.

The arena is one of two rinks in the north of England that has the facilities for speed skating, and members come from far and wide to train in Bradford.
