Tate Gallery continues on Midlands and North tour

Artwork by David Hockney and Andy Warhol has reached Stoke-on-Trent on a tour across the Midlands and the north of England.

A mobile version of the Tate Gallery is making its way across the country in a purpose-built lorry trailer.

Staffordshire families can book online via the Art Explora website to attend a free tour and art activity.

The gallery is in Burslem until Thursday before moving to other Stoke-on-Trent locations until Saturday 6 April.

Jemima Montagu, UK director for Art Explora, was pleased that their trip to Stoke-on-Trent tied in with the Easter holidays.

“We know that only one in three children went to a museum or art gallery last year - we want to break down those barriers,” said Ms Montagu.

Sarah Lancett, a mother of two, described it as a fantastic activity given her daughters’ love for drawing and colouring.

“It’s even better that it hasn’t cost us a penny, so it means we can save some money to do some other activities,” she said.

Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and Stoke-on-Trent City Centre Business Improvement District have linked in with the mobile exhibition to organise a series of creative workshops.

There will also be a pop-up exhibit in Smithfield from Stoke-on-Trent College students.

After the Stoke-on-Trent leg of the tour, the mobile gallery heads on to Wigan, Rotherham and Tarporley.
