Trust downgrades critical status at hospitals
BBCA critical incident declared by an NHS trust serving Suffolk and Essex has been downgraded.
East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust said it was facing "significant pressure" across its sites, including Ipswich and Colchester hospitals, on 15 January.
Andrian Marr, interim chief executive at the trust, said improvements were now being seen and the incident status had been downgraded to a "business continuity level".
It came after the NHS said it was facing a rise in flu and other winter viruses after Christmas.
"We have seen an increased demand for our services since the new year, which meant we declared a critical incident on Tuesday, 13 January," Marr explained.
"We are beginning to see improvements and have downgraded our incident status to a business continuity level.
"This means we will continue to closely monitor the situation throughout each day to make sure we continue to deliver safe and compassionate care for all our patients, as well as supporting our dedicated colleagues during this time."
He added he was "really grateful to everyone for bearing with us".
