The airline ceased trading in November

Travellers who purchased tickets for collapsed airline Blue islands can still submit claims even though the deadline has passed, liquidators have said.

The Channel Islands-based airline, which employed about 100 staff, operated flights to various locations in the British Isles, and also to Bruges and Paris.

It ceased trading in November with the loss of 100 jobs and an estimated 20,000 unused tickets.

Liquidators from Ernst and Young told the BBC they would "currently still admit provable claims" received after the 29 December deadline. They advised people who used a credit card to book flights directly with Blue Islands to contact their card issuer who may be able to refund them.

Debit or charge card customers may also be able to claim a refund for tickets they bought using cards through the issuer's charge back rules.

Ernst and Young advised people who would still like to make a claim as an unsecured creditor to contact [email protected] for information on how to submit their claim.

It said people who had already submitted claims did not need to take further action and the liquidators would write to them.

The company also said travellers who bought travel insurance which included cover for scheduled airline failure, known as 'SAFI' should contact their insurer.

Anyone who bought their tickets through a booking or travel agent, they should contact them, the liquidators advised.

The Civil Aviation Authority has produced a negative response letter for anyone who needs to provide proof of the airline's insolvency.
