A 36-year-old man has died in hospital after being injured in an incident at a demolition site in Renfrewshire.

A large-scale emergency response, including police officers, fire crews and specialist ambulance teams attended Waverley Road in Paisley at about 09:15 on Friday.

Several empty flat blocks were being demolished as part of a regeneration project in the town's Foxbar area.

The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He was in a critical condition overnight and died on Saturday.

A cordon was put in place around the part-demolished building and an excavator machine, sitting on top of a pile of rubble.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
