A derelict former trucker cafe near a possible Bronze Age archaeological site is set to be demolished.

The Comfort Cafe, just off the A11 in Little Abington, Cambridgeshire, has been abandoned since 2018 and developers are hoping to replace it with a building with "fit-for-purpose and modern sustainability credentials".

Planning documents state that "to the east of the site boundary was the subject of an archaeological dig in 1994, when archaeologists unearthed relics and discovered fragments of Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman pottery".

South Cambridgeshire District Council officers say prior approval to demolish the building is not required.

Documents submitted to the council said the café was established in 1922 "and became a popular trucker's cafe".

"More recently it had tended to focus on cars, until 2018, when it closed," it added, and it has "fallen into disrepair, attracting anti-social behaviour and vandalism".

Plans to replace it with a new commercial building are being considered by the council.
