Three schools in Guernsey have been awarded funding to bolster their active travel plans.

Vauvert School, the Sixth Form Centre, and Ladies College were granted a share of £3,000 by the Better Journeys Project's Fund For Schools.

The Sixth Form Centre received £1,500 for its "ambitious and well-planned" bike loan scheme, Vauvert School would use money to install three scooter racks, and Ladies College received a contribution to its new bike sheds, project bosses said.

Mark Smith, director of the Better Journeys Project, said the judging panel chose the three they felt would have the highest likelihood of success.

Amy Woolaston, from the Health Improvement Committee, who also sat on the judging panel, said the funding would "drive real change" across the island.

The unsuccessful applications have been shared with States Traffic and Highway Services - and it "looks likely" some will be covered by the States budget, the Better Journeys Project said.

The Better Journeys Project Fund for Schools is made possible by the support of its 2025 Sponsor Appleby Global, £1,500 from the Health Improvement Commission and the continued support of the Tom Dorey Eco-Legacy, it added.
